Success of Dr. Allan
Dr. Allan Chesterfield Burnett is a counseling psychologist who asserts that the purpose of educational institutions must be to equip students to fit into a society’s legitimate goals, practices, and functions.
He is the registrar of Saint Teresa University in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) of the Caribbean region. Dr. Burnett is also an Evaluator with the National Accreditation Board (NAB) of the island nation.
“NAB accredits institutions, making sure that they achieve the required standards in delivering quality education to a cross-section of students affiliated to those institutions. Thus, helping the students in acquiring the best education possible in their chosen area of study. As a psychologist in a private capacity, I can monitor students’ progress, as well as their mental health.”
While discussing the aim of educational institutions in the Windward Island – SVG, he says, most institutions rely on highly qualified and efficient faculty members. However, there should be more emphasis on exceptional students who get inadvertently left behind due to the structure of the curriculum and the teaching practices. There should be more efficient means to strengthen students’ distinct capabilities.
“The degree program emphasizes acquiring professional capabilities and guiding students based on their strengths and capabilities,” said Dr. Burnett. He completed his PhD in Guidance and Counseling Psychology at Texila American University (TAU) in association with UCN.
Recounting his experiences at Texila, Dr. Burnett said that the university hones not only the PhD students’ knowledge and time management skills but also their attitude and worldview.
“Texila’s curriculum and the duration and structure of modules were exceptional. Additionally, I have to say the university followed best practices in the assessment and grading system. It is a distinct feature I haven’t seen anywhere in the world.”
Dr. Burnett said the students enjoyed a multicultural environment on the platform, allowing them to form a vast network of friends.
As a top education official specializing in psychological principles, Dr. Burnett is well equipped to enhance the growth of individuals and the community at large in SVG.
He says we are a resilient people of the island nation that was struck by a volcano two months ago. Coupled with the COVID crisis, the volcano-driven evacuation saw schools, colleges, and churches of the country’s green zone (safe) turn into temporary shelters.
Texila American University is a world-class institution offering PhD degrees in various streams. One such stream is Guidance and Counseling Psychology. Are you an aspiring psychologist looking to upgrade your qualification?
